The Orthodox Christening is a sacred and meaningful ceremony in the Greek Orthodox Church. In Cyprus, it is an important tradition that has been passed down for generations, and it is a special occasion for families to celebrate the arrival of their new baby. Subsequently, beautiful Christening Photography is essential.
As a professional photographer and videographer, I have been privileged to capture many beautiful and meaningful Christenings all over the island of Cyprus. The ceremony takes place in a church, and it is a very emotional and spiritual moment for the parents and the godparents. The baby is baptized with holy water by the priest and is later dressed in traditional white attire.
Sometimes, it is not as easy as it seems, especially for the godparents. The baby needs to be calm, fed and rested before the ceremony. The water must have the ideal temperature and the way the priest handles the baby is key. Sadly, it’s very common for the baby to cry, but it’s all part of documenting this day.
Following the Christening ceremony is the reception. There, family and friends gather to celebrate the new arrival and express their wishes for health and happiness. The reception is usually held in a traditional Cypriot tavern where the guests enjoy local food, music and even dance.
Above all, I approach Christening photography with a mix of traditional and contemporary style.
Always capturing the spiritual and emotional moments of the ceremony, as well as the joy and celebration of the reception. Similarly, I also take family portraits and candid shots of the guests, creating a visual story of the special day.
